Resolution for 2009: More Fruit Covered in Chocolate

Our daughter loves to help prepare almost every meal and tonight's New Year's Eve meal needed something sweet to wrap up 2008. We opened up our copy of Favorite Brand Name Simple Recipes for Kids and decided on the Mud Hole Dunk which is fruit dipped in melted chocolate frosting, and then rolled in sprinkles.

You'll need:
  • Chocolate Frosting
  • Fruit
  • Sprinkles (We had lots of left over sprinkles from Christmas cookies)
  • Wax paper
The shortened version of the simple recipe is:
  1. Warm up some store bought frosting(don't use whipped) in the microwave for 15-20 seconds until it is melted
  2. Dip the fruit in the frosting and roll it in the sprinkles
  3. Put it on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper and then in the fridge until the frosting is set

Beerntsen's Confectionary in Manitowoc, WI

Beerntsen's Confectionary is a fabulous little candy and ice cream shop that I have frequented since I was a little girl. Beerntsen's is located in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and has been around since 1932. My parents used to take my sisters and I there for home made sandwiches, sundaes and, of course, their yummy candy. My parents still live in the area, and when we go to visit, we always make sure to stop at Beerntsen's. Our daughter's love it as much as we do! It's a great tradition.
